Cheri's Best Spicy Marinara

It is possible to make your own marinara with a nice depth of flavor in about 1 hour. This is my go to sauce for any pasta or casserole dishes that call for a spicy marinara. You can even use this as a topping for pizza. So much better than store bought!

Cheri's Best Spicy Marinara

2 - 14.5 oz cans diced tomatoes
1 - 6 oz can tomato paste
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tbsp dried onion flakes
1 tbsp dried Italian seasoning
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 cup apple cider**

Saute garlic in olive oil over medium heat in a large skillet for about 1 minute.

Blend together remaining ingredients in a food processor (I used my Ninja-love it!) until smooth.

Add sauce mixture to the sauteed garlic. Stir to combine. Turn up the heat to medium-high until the sauce just begins to boil.

Reduce heat to low and cover, simmering for about 1 hour. Enjoy!

Makes about 3 cups

**Helpful Note**
Alternatively, you can substitute 1/2 cup apple cider for apple juice, or a dry white or red wine
