Creamy Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a classic breakfast that never goes out of style. Hot, healthy, filling, and nutritious. It has everything you could ask for to start your morning off right. I used to be addicted to those little packets of sugary instant oatmeal where you just add water. If that's all you've ever tried, please do yourself a favor and try this recipe! Instant just doesn't compare with using real old-fashioned rolled oats. You get a much more yummy, creamy texture that really sticks to your bones. And the combinations are endless! Sometimes I add dried cranberries instead of the raisins or I add cut up granny smith apples to give a sweet and tart contrast. Be creative and see which combination becomes a family favorite at your breakfast table!

Creamy Oatmeal

1 1/3 cups of old-fashioned rolled oats
3 cups of milk
1/2 cup of raisins
4 tsp brown sugar
1/8 tsp salt
a few dashes of cinnamon

Combine oats, milk, raisins, brown sugar, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat stirring occasionally until the mixture starts to boil. Once the mixture boils, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Then cover the saucepan and remove from heat. Let sit for 5 minutes. Add a few dashes of cinnamon. Hmm, hmm good!
